SAPHAI, Ambea and Nynäshamns Kommun collaborate to explore humanoid robotics in elderly care
SAPHAI AB, Ambea and Nynäshamns Kommun are starting a proof-of-concept collaboration to explore how humanoid robotics and artificial intelligence could support future elderly-care operations.
The initiative will investigate how intelligent robotic systems can assist with selected routine and repetitive activities, initially focusing on the handling and organisation of commonly used care supplies . The initiative is also driven by the demographic development and the need to find new and sustainable ways of delivering elderly care in the future. As the number of older people and care needs increase, while the available workforce does not grow at the same pace, new ways of working and technological support will be essential to meet future needs.
The collaboration brings together SAPHAI’s expertise in next generation Humanoids enabled by Physical AI, resilient autonomy and robotics with Ambea’s and Nynäshamns kommuns extensive knowledge of care services and operational needs.
The proof of concept will be developed and evaluated in a controlled laboratory environment. The purpose is to assess the technology’s functionality, usability and potential value before considering possible future applications in care environments. The collaboration follows a human-centred approach. The ambition is not to replace care professionals, but to explore how emerging technologies could support their work and create more time for activities requiring human presence, judgement and empathy.
Through this initiative, SAPHAI, Ambea and Nynäshamns Kommun aim to develop practical knowledge about the opportunities, limitations and requirements associated with humanoid robotics in elderly care.
The proof-of-concept activities are expected to be completed during 2026.
